The Shawangunk Grasslands National Wildlife Refuge is a true conservation gem. Sitting atop a former military airfield, this open green spaces attracts a variety of grassland species-- in particular Short-eared Owls. This species will court, hunt, and breed in the area before returning north in the summer.
